Air France 447 – Analysis of Weather Conditions

Tim Vasquez, of Weather Graphics, has carried out a detailed meteorological analysis of the likely conditions that AF447 flew into on 1 June 2009. It’s extremely interesting reading for all professional pilots.

    But how is it that in this day and age a modern airliner is not equipped with sufficient electronic information so the commander could choose to fly around it?

  • To avoid the weather system completely would have involved a deviaton of a couple of hundred miles and may have been impossible. The analysis points out that the aircraft was somewhat left of track which would suggest the crew was trying to avoid the largest cell on the image.
